# Fist assignment on Aristotle's Poetics and Plato's objection towards poetry :
1.Ans -
Plato was the great philosopher of Greece and disciple of Socrates, a great philosopher of Athens who had invested his whole life in the invention of truth. When the thing is about the objection which plato raised on poetry.Plato was not critic by profession but in his book "Republic" we can read his objections on poetry.
I also believe that some pieces of poetry can harm intellectuality and can drive human beings in a wrong manner but here in the objection of Plato I am not agee, because Plato said that poetry is the mother of lies and creates rational fools but when someone is writing poetry or reading the poetry it requires sharp brain.
Three main objections of Plato for poetry are:
1.Ethical,
2. Philosophical,
And 3. Pragmatic .
In his ethical objection of poetry Plato said that poetry promotes undesirable passion, in the objection of philosophy, poetry provides false knowledge and it has no educational value.
In my opinion Plato is quite wrong here, that nothing is original in this world and nothing is imitation of another thing! That if we can sing the song which is written...can we call it the imitation of lyrics?
4. Answer -
I have studied Hamlet and Othello during BA program in which both protagonist characters are Hamlet and Othello. They both follow Aristotle's literary tradition of tragedy, that they both have taken wrong decisions which lead them towards the end of their lives that catharsis can apply in the state of reader.
2. Answer -
I have studied the tragedy by Shakespeare, "Romeo and Juliet" in that particular tragedy Protagonist Romeo killed Juliet's cousin unwillingly and ran away from the town one misunderstanding of Juliet's death leads Romeo towards the death. To kill one person that creates hamartia in the play and also makes readers to purgatory process.
3. Answer
Yes, I have studied a text which did not follow Aristotle's literary tradition.
It is the play "Waiting for Godot"
There is nothing like protagonist character and any mistake by them which can lead the play towards unhappy end because it is an Absurd play by Absurdist writer Samuel Backet.
Thank you 😊
